Yes. Staying the full 17 days is mandatory for your 6 month hospital insurance cover, unless your surgeon signs you off earlier.
Can I fly home 15 days after hip replacement surgery abroad UK?
Yes. Once your surgeon confirms you are fit to travel, you may return home. You must complete any prescribed anti-coagulant injections and follow all post-operative guidance provided by the surgical team.
Do I need to be signed off by my surgeon before returning home after hip replacement surgery abroad?
Yes. A new X-ray and thorough discharge consultation are mandatory before you travel back to the UK.
How soon will I walk independently and when can I drive or exercise after hip replacement abroad?
Most patients regain independent mobility before discharge. Driving is generally permitted after approximately 6 weeks, with exercise to follow your surgeon’s advice.
I don’t speak French. Can I communicate easily during my hip replacement treatment in France?
