Must I stay in France for the full 17 days for hip replacement surgery abroad?
Yes. Staying the full 17 days is mandatory for your 6 month hospital insurance cover, unless your surgeon signs you off earlier.
Can I fly home 15 days after hip replacement surgery abroad UK?
Yes. Once your surgeon confirms you are fit to travel, you may return home. You must complete any prescribed anti-coagulant injections and follow all post-operative guidance provided by the surgical team.
Yes. A new X-ray and thorough discharge consultation are mandatory before you travel back to the UK.
How soon will I walk independently and when can I drive or exercise after hip replacement abroad?
Most patients regain independent mobility before discharge. Driving is generally permitted after approximately 6 weeks, with exercise to follow your surgeon’s advice.
I don’t speak French. Can I communicate easily during my knee replacement treatment in France?
Yes. Surgeons speak English and you will have a dedicated English speaking support person throughout your entire stay.
Can my companion stay at the hospital during knee replacement surgery abroad?
Yes. A second bed can be arranged in your private room.
Do I need elective surgery travel insurance for knee replacement abroad?
Yes, it is recommended for non-surgical matters. An upper age limit of 75 applies.
